Slice #5 - The Document

Thanks to everyone who participated
and wrote about a reunion!
Three cheers!

Death certificate for one of my husband's ancestors
available online

This week, I'd like to do something a little different. Documents are a part of life. We're born, and we get a birth certificate. We learn to drive, we get a driver's license. Go to school - there's a transcript, and eventually, a diploma. Get sick - medical records. Marriage license and certificates, and eventually, everyone gets a death certificate, but you don't get to know what's written on your own. ;) (Little genealogy humor there....)

So, for personal histories, let's hear what it was like getting one of those fabulous documents. How'd you feel? What'd you do? If you're religious, there's also going to be baptismal certificates, christenings, mission calls... so many different documents to choose from!

For ancestral histories, let's face it - we genealogists LIVE for documents! Which one did you FINALLY find that was a major breakthrough?! Which Family Bible are you proudest to own? What document is it that answered the burning mystery you had with that branch of the family tree?

Amazing, the things a little piece of paper can stir up. :)

Don't forget to come back and link to Mr. Linky!

  1. Well, I'm a geek. I should have thought about this being Father's Day. Oh well.... prompts don't have to reflect the holidays, eh?

  2. Well my Slice was about a whole family being brought together, and it seemed that the fathers and their children helped it.
